In Victorian-era London, on the night of Ciel Phantomhive's tenth birthday, a fire destroyed his manor and killed his parents. In a moment of death, Ceil strikes a deal with a demon: his soul in exchange for revenge. This demon becomes his butler and calls himself Sebastian Michaelis until the deal is completed. Ciel is the head of the Phantomhive corporation, handling all business affairs as well as the work as the Queen’s “guard dog” all while looking for his parents murders.
Pros:
- There is a lot of talk and examples of the English and Japanese cultures of that time. There are also several historical references.
- There are themes of justice and of loyalty.
- This anime is based in the English aristocracy, so you can learn a lot about the aristocrats.
Cons:
- There are 148 curse words in this anime: d--n, b----rd, s-d, b---dy, h--l, p---ed.
- There are five instances of blatant homosexuality.
- This is filled with disturbing imagery, demons, selling of souls, and violence.
- There is a crossdressing as well as a character who claims to be transsexual.
- This anime is full of sexual innuendo and tones, nudity, and scantily clad women.
My Opinion:
This is an anime I don’t condone for anyone under 18. For one, it glorifies and glamourizes demons and makes everyone think making deals with demons is a good decision. Second, angels are apparently evil baddies. This goes against everything Christians believe in. I am giving this anime a D-.
